It took a long time for STARZ and Netflix to make a deal to bring Outlander to Netflix, and it’s arguably the best thing that happened for the series. Will Outlander: Blood of My Blood get the same deal?
I will say that I didn’t think Netflix to get its hands on Outlander in the U.S., and that was because it was a STARZ Original. I’m so glad that I was proven wrong, because I always thought that the series would perform better on Netflix than it did on STARZ. I went through all this way in the past on claireandjamie.com before the deal was even made!
Now that Outlander: Blood of My Blood has aired its first season in full, it’s time to see if it will go to Netflix.
STARZ needs to make another deal for Outlander: Blood of My Blood
While Blood of My Blood is set in the same universe as Outlander, the shows are separate entities when it comes to making deals. Sure, the creative team behind the two shows in the same, but that doesn’t mean all the deals are. We’ve already seen that with the intentional release deals, as in Canada, Outlander airs on W Network but Blood of My Blood is on STARZ.
So, STARZ and Netflix will need to make a new deal for the Outlander prequel series, and this is where it all becomes a problem. Back when Jeremy Hirsch took over as the CEO of STARZ, he made it clear that he didn’t like Chris Albrecht’s deal with Netflix for Outlander. What he didn’t see was how good it would be for the show when new episodes dropped, but it was in the middle of a major Droughtlander.
As he’s still the head of STARZ, it could mean that he doesn’t want another Netflix deal. It’s short-sighted, but we can’t exactly convince him to do something he doesn’t want to do. His board can, but we can’t.
If the Outlander prequel goes to Netflix, when would it likely be?
If there is a deal made, then I could see it being under similar terms as Outlander. That means there will be a long wait for the episodes to head to Netflix.
Right now, it takes two years from the finale date for Outlander seasons to head to Netflix. It’s under a non-exclusive agreement, so the episodes remain on STARZ at the same time. If there was a deal, I could see the same happening, and that would mean we’re waiting until Oct. 10, 2027, for all 10 episodes of Outlander: Blood of My Blood to head to Netflix.
In some good news, there will be new episodes of the series out by then, as I’m sure we’ll get the second season in early 2027. It’s just annoying for those who hope that the show heads to another streaming platform to watch all the episodes.
Outlander: Blood of My Blood is currently only available to stream on STARZ.
