We would love nothing more than to get another trailer for an Outlander episode, but there is some bad news. You will have noticed that there wasn’t a trailer.
Now there are a few networks that opt not to release trailers for new episodes. CBS has been doing it recently with SWAT and we saw NBC do this with The Blacklist during its final season. It doesn’t make a lot of sense, but it does happen. That’s not what has happened here, though.
We’re now into Droughtlander
Sorry, Sassenachs, but we are now officially into another Droughtlander. The episode that is currently available on the STARZ App, and will air tonight, Friday, Jan. 17 on the channel, is the season 7 finale. We’re not getting into spoilers in this post for those who haven’t watched it yet, but it was a big episode, and it clearly leads into the next season.
It’s the last Droughtlander, though. Outlander season 8 is officially set as the final season. This is a bittersweet moment. In a way, we’re sad that the show has ended, but we’re happy that the series got an ending and wasn’t abruptly canceled. At one point, season 7 was going to be the last, but STARZ changed its mind.
When will Outlander return with new episodes
Get ready for a long Droughtlander. We don’t expect to see Outlander season 8 air in 2025. This is because Outlander: Blood of My Blood, the prequel series, will air this year instead. STARZ won’t want to put two big shows in the same franchise on in the same year, especially when there were already episodes of Outlander airing in January 2025.
So, we’re looking at a long Droughtlander, and that means a while before we get any officially promotional material for Outlander season 8. There are a few leaked images, and there are certainly some ideas of what could happen based on the ninth book in the series, Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone, but we’ll have to wait until at least later this year to get any sort of idea on what to expect.
