Inspector Blake has his work cut out for him on Miss Scarlet season 6 episode 5. It’s made even harder thanks to a mole.

Caution: This post contains SPOILERS from Miss Scarlet season 6 episode 5.

While the episode opens with Eliza going to see Blake to share that she is going on holiday — Moses’s wife had a baby boy, so she’s heading to Paris to see him! — the focus is on Scotland Yard for the entire episode. With riots in the streak and some stomach bug going around, Scotland Yard is short handed, and it means Blake and Willows are working a double, covering the night shift.

Of course, it’s a big night. Dylan Cooper is going to be transferred to Newgate Prison, which is a place he doesn’t’ want to go to. In fact, he doesn’t think the governor there will want him. Well, the governor does, but something stops the transfer from happening.

Blake shuts down Scotland Yard on Miss Scarlet season 6 episode 5

It doesn’t take long for Blake to realize that Cooper is up to something. The riots are getting closer to Scotland Yard, and they’re too short-handed to protect the place. As too many people end up being brought in and the telephones go down, Blake has to make the choice to shut down Scotland Yard.

Those who haven’t been booked yet get to go free. It’s their lucky day! However, Blake and Willows are in for a long nightshift, especially when Izzy comes to Willows to share that she recognized one of the PCs.

PC Murray was someone she recognized from going through the mug shot photos when she was at the secretary office. Of course, that photo has been ripped out, but it looks like PC Murray is a man called Griffiths, and Blake and Willows immediately believe that he is a mole to get Cooper out of prison. It’s even more suspicious when they find PC Walkins knocked out cold and his keys missing. Who happens to have the keys? Murray, of course!

However, when Murray and Walkins end up feeling queasy after some tea that Izzy made, it’s soon clear that someone else is the mole.

Izzy was planted at Scotland Yard by Dylan Cooper on Miss Scarlet

Things all start to come out when Cooper is attacked by his cellmate. That means Blake has to take Cooper to his office instead, with Cooper promising to share everything about the plot.

It turns out that he got his men to kick off all the riots. The stomach flu is actually due to rancid meat being brought into the cafeteria. All of this was planned, and when a man with a horse and carriage turns up and then just walks away, Blake worries that it’s going to be explosives to get Cooper out.

However, there are no explosives in the carriage. This was all a ploy for Cooper to be left alone.

Around this time, Willows starts to suspect Izzy, going to the phone room to find out that the phone lines had just been unplugged. Sure enough, she was trying to get Cooper out of Scotland Yard while everyone was distracted. Willows finds them, disappointed to find out that the woman he was falling for was a mole.

She had been planted by Dylan Cooper, long before he knew he was going to be arrested. At first, it was just to gather information, but her close proximity came in use during Miss Scarlet season 6 episode 5. Cooper had spent all his money on the riots, so she was his only hope to get him out of prison.

With the situation handled, Blake and Willows are able to get Cooper transferred to Newgate. Izzy is arrested for aiding Cooper’s escape.

Blake goes to see Eliza on Miss Scarlet season 6 episode 5

After ending the previous episode with a breakup, Miss Scarlet season 6’s penultimate episode offers us some hope. Blake goes to Eliza’s home to give her the glove she accidentally dropped at Scotland Yard earlier in the episode. She was waiting for him, as it turns out that she purposely left it there so that Blake would have no choice but to come see her. After all, their attempts at a conversation kept getting interrupted due to work.

Blake uses this chance to share just a small bit of the previous night. Throughout the night he had realized one thing. Eliza was a good thing in his life, and he loved her, so he needed to find a way to apologize. That’s what he does, even saying those three little words that so much. As Eliza says them back, it looks like this relationship is back on track as we prepare for the Miss Scarlet season 6 finale.

Miss Scarlet airs on Sundays at 8/7c on PBS.
