It’s not often that Phelps agrees that he needs Eliza’s help, but that is certainly the case on Miss Scarlet season 6 episode 4. However, this could cause a bigger rift between Eliza and Blake.
Caution: This post contains SPOILERS from Miss Scarlet season 6 episode 4
The episode opens with Phelps by his mom’s bedside. She’s in hospital, and it’s clear that he misses talking with her. When his uncle, Dylan Cooper, turns up at the hospital, things are tense. However, the two men just have to learn to get along considering they both want the same thing for Phelps’s mom.
Things take a turn during the episode when Phelps ends up with a case that involves a missing chorus girl, Natalia Lorenzo. There’s enough blood that could have been a murder, and there is a bullet mark in the wall, but there is no sign of what could have happened to the girl. However, she had two gentlemen callers: one of the men from the Golanis mob family and Dylan Cooper.

Phelps wants to prove his uncle’s innocence on Miss Scarlet season 6 episode 4
So, why does Phelps hire Eliza? It’s more to prove that his uncle didn’t do it. He knows that it’s certainly possible the gang leader did do something, but he doesn’t want to believe it. And he will only take Dylan into custody if he can prove it.
The problem is the case also ends up in Blake’s hands. Philip Golanis turns up dead. It’s clear he’s been shot, but there is no bullet. This man was actually killed on Phelps’s turf, and now the two detective inspectors need to work together. It puts Eliza somewhat in the middle, as Phelps didn’t want anyone finding out that he had hired her.
Of course, Blake is annoyed that she hasn’t told him anything yet again. Eliza points out that the Southampton lie and the lack of information about this case are because of work. Her clients need her to keep things privileged, and that includes from Blake. As much as he doesn’t like it, he will need to deal with it.

The problem is Dylan Cooper gets in the way of things, as he tries to make it clear he’s innocent. He goes as far as threatening Sophia, which riles up Blake.
Cooper didn't do it, by the way! It turns out that Natalia was like a daughter to Cooper — she was the daughter of an inmate he once did time with — and Phillip had attacked her. She shot him in self defence, and he ende up getting Natalia out of town. However, he does end up arrested by the end of the episode!

Sophia goes missing on Miss Scarlet
So, when Sophia goes missing, you just know that Blake is going to fear the worst. Everyone ends up searching for her, with Ivy heading to the park. There is a bit of a personal matter for Ivy and Barnabus here, as Ivy shares that Barnabus’s writing isn’t all that great, and it’s why he’s getting turned down from publishers. He needs to get his old job back.
This leads to Barnabus realizing that there is another job out there for him. The secretarial office is hiring a clerical manager, which Izzy points out Ivy could do, except that the job description is for a man. Well, guess which man is going to apply? Yes, Barnabus! Poor, Ivy! It’s bad enough she’s overworked now that some of the secretaries like Izzy have gone to the switchboard to work, but now she’ll have her husband at home and work.

It’s good news for Sophia, though. It turns out that she went to the British Museum. Earlier in the episode, Eliza had shared that she once took the day off school and went to the British Museum instead, and that’s where Sophia got the idea for it. She ended up getting lost, and that’s why she was late.
It opens up a can of worms for Blake. He realizes that he needs to put Sophia first, and that means he has to take a break from Eliza. Are they really going to end things on Miss Scarlet? It seems so.
Miss Scarlet airs on Sundays at 8/7c on PBS.
