We knew Moses Valentine would be back, and it happened on Miss Scarlet season 6 episode 3. Of course, this brought trouble to Eliza, but the biggest trouble came for Clarence.
Caution: This post contains SPOILERS from Miss Scarlet season 6 episode 3.
It’s immediately clear that someone is in Eliza’s house when she gets home, but that’s just because of how much focus is on the empty house. At first, Eliza doesn’t suspect anything, but she pulls out a knife when she feels a presence behind her. Sure enough, it’s Moses Valentine.
He comes looking for help, but not from here. He needs the help of Inspector Blake, but he needs to know if Eliza can trust him, because he doesn’t exactly have the best experience with cops.

Why is Moses Valentine back on Miss Scarlet season 6 episode 3?
Moses shares that Patrick Nash sent him to England. Patrick isn’t in Australia after all. He has traveled the globe, ending in Venezuela, where he found a diamond mine. He has managed to mine the largest diamond, and he has sent it with someone for Moses and another acquaintance to meet.
That acquaintance isn’t Eliza. It turns out that Patrick wrote to Clarence as well, and now the two need to work together to meet with Florence, the woman Patrick has sent from Venezuela, to sell the diamond.
Of course, they end up with people coming after them, and that’s not surprising with the act that Florence is putting on. Yes, it’s all an act. She makes herself out to be a liability, but really, she has things all planned out. The cab driver was her father, and he had the real diamond, so when the thieves took one — because she knew the man she talked to on the ship was part of a gang looking for the diamond — they would take the fake.

The thieves realized earlier than expected that the diamond was a fake, which led to them killing one of their own and placing that body in Clarence’s lodgings. So, now Clarence has been framed for murder, and the trio need to protect Florence’s father from the thieves who are now after him, since they know the meeting place that Florence’s father set.
Florence is the one to create a plan to protect her father and keep the diamond in her own hands. It’s all by hiring other women to dress in the widow garb and walk through the streets. It’s enough to get all the men arrested, and so the trio and Florence’s father are able to get away.

Moses wants Blake’s help to clear Clarence’s name
So, why did Moses need Blake? Well, it’s all about the murder. Someone needs to vouch for Clarence, and Blake is the right man for that.
There is a moment between Moses and Blake when he points out that he can see Blake and Eliza have eyes for each other. There’s only so much longer the two can hide their relationship from others, but is there even going to be a relationship?
It turns out that the “real” diamond was actually another fake. It seems that Patrick Nash didn’t trust Florence to get the diamond into the right hands.

That’s probably because he called on someone else. Eliza’s trip to Southampton wasn’t to see an aunt at all. She went there because another ship was docking, one with Patrick Nash on. Sadly, we don’t get to see Felix Scott in the episode, but his presence is certainly felt, as Eliza shares that she got the real diamond, and she will make sure everyone gets their cut.
Now, Moses can head back to France, where he has made a life for himself. He has his own business now, but that's not all. He has a wife and a baby on the way, and we couldn't be happier for him. He deserves it.
This is where the questions for Blake and Eliza come in. Eliza lied to everyone, including Blake, about why she was going to Southampton, and he has to question whether she trusts him. It’s clear that Eliza will always keep things from Blake, and that likely worries him. You can see it in his face that he’s unhappy about being lied to in this relationship, and it’s sure to come up later on Miss Scarlet season 6.
Miss Scarlet season 6 airs on Sundays at 8/7c on PBS.
