Caution: This post contains SPOILERS from Miss Scarlet season 6 episode 2

When a divorced couple blame each other for a stolen horse, the two hire different people to deal with the situation. Lord Roberts files a police report, pulling Blake into that side of the investigation. Meanwhile, Lady Roberts hires Eliza, although she believes that she’s hiring Patrick Nash’s firm rather than her own.

This leads to some issues between Blake and Eliza, as they try to avoid talking about work in their personal time. While Eliza is now taking some cases from Scotland Yard, Blake is offering some to other private detectives to avoid being accused of plagiarism.

A case of a stolen horse on Miss Scarlet season 6 episode 2

The episode starts with the mystery of a stolen horse. A divorced couple blames each other. The horse was given to Lady Roberts in the divorce, but Lord Roberts is appealing it. This horse was Lady Roberts’s horse before the marriage, so it should go to her, but things take a turn when it’s stolen.

It then takes a turn when Lady Roberts gets a blackmail letter, and the plot thickens when it turns out that Lady Roberts was paying a conman, who was the man who turned up dead. However, the whole case threatens to destroy Eliza and Blake’s relationship, especially as Eliza takes a police report to help with the case.

Eliza is only interested in solving the case. While it may not lead to getting money from Lady Roberts, the publication of the story will help her.

Sure enough, Eliza does end up finding the horse, and she makes sure everyone knows that she worked with Blake, which means he can’t get too annoyed about the stolen file. Not only does Eliza figure out where the horse was, but the two also learn that Lord and Lady Roberts were involved with the horse stealer. The guy betrayed both people, and he was going to sell the horse to stud on the black market.

Eliza agrees to not go to the press about the findings as long as Lord Roberts drops the appeal case and Lady Roberts pays the full fee plus a bonus. The case is closed.

Barnabus finds a new way to pass his time

Meanwhile, another relationship is tested. Now that Barnabus has been fired from his job, he spends his time doing work around the house. That is until he gets the idea to write his memoirs, and he asks Ivy to look through the first chapter, which is more like half the book!

Ivy suggests that he trims it down a little, and that she apologizes to Mr. Wormsley so that he gets his job back. Only, as she tells him that he is a great writer, Barnabus decides that it must mean he should get a typewriter and continue writing. Oh, dear! That’s sure to take a turn throughout the season.

Clarence figures out the truth on Miss Scarlet

Another person finds out the truth about Blake and Eliza on Miss Scarlet season 6 episode 2. Clarence is still annoyed at the entire situation between Eliza and Scotland Yard. He needs Eliza to fix the situation, but then he realizes something. It’s not that the two have fallen out.

As he realizes that the two are together, he gets angry. This could ruin everything. Should the two break up, it would mean Eliza loses all the work from Scotland Yard. This does lead to Eliza wondering if she’s doing the right thing, but Ivy makes it clear that Blake makes her happy, and it’s important to keep that happiness in her life. Plus, if it came down to the case or Blake, Eliza would always put Blake first.

Clarence also realizes that he was wrong in shouting at Eliza, and he apologizes for his behavior. He wasn’t really wrong, though, and he had a right to be frustrated. Eliza isn’t mad at him for that. However, we do get to see that relationship on the mend.

By the end of Miss Scarlet, Eliza and Blake get to head out on a date together out in the open, but far enough away from other people so that they can still have some privacy. Their rule of not talking about work is thrown out of the window, as they realize they have nothing else to talk about. Not really, anyway, and so they end the episode talking about a burglary case Blake is about to take over.

Miss Scarlet airs on Sundays at 8/7c on PBS.
