Eliza and Blake have a case that they don’t like the sound off. It involves Police Commissioner Fitzroy in the Miss Scarlet season 5 finale.
Caution: This post contains SPOILERS for the Miss Scarlet season 5 finale
After spending the season trying not to work with Eliza, Blake realizes that he needs to in the latest episode. However, Eliza ends up keeping things from him, but she can’t keep doing that for long.
The episode opens with us seeing how Phelps is starting to feel pushed out. Blake hasn’t allowed him to lead a case for months, and he threatens a mutiny. Only, it turns out that only he is feeling like Blake is a bad boss, and nobody will join him.
Meanwhile, we get to see Fitzroy and his father once again. It’s clear that nothing has changed between the two, but something may by the end of the episode.
Mrs. Fitzroy comes to Eliza for help in the Miss Scarlet season 5 finale
After initially meeting Mr. Fitzroy at the police station, Eliza gets to meet his wife, Detective Fitzroy’s mom. Mrs. Fitzroy has overlooked a lot of things in her marriage, but she is done overlooking the infidelity. Her husband doesn’t meet with the men he says he is, and now she wants answers.
Eliza finds herself involved in something much bigger, though. Mr. Fitzroy is meeting a man, and it seems like there is a gay love affair going on. That’s not the case when Eliza and Clarence are held at gunpoint. There are Russians, and they want to know where the briefcase is that a man named Alexi left in the pub. They think that Eliza took it and listened to something.
When Detective Fitzroy is attacked at the docks, Blake wants to get to the bottom of it. He knows that this wasn’t just some random attack, but he needs to prove it. At first, Eliza doesn’t tell Blake anything, but she realizes that she needs to when the woman who was at the bar warns her to stay away from the investigation. Is this woman in on it, too?
Blake and Eliza work together on the conspiracy
It turns out that there is some sort of Russian conspiracy. When they break into Alexi’s house, they find a device that can play a recording. Sure enough, Blake can speak basic Russian, and he’s able to decipher the message. He doesn’t understand it all, so he has to look up a particular word.
Police Commissioner Fitzroy is going to be lured somewhere and killed. It’s Phelps (who we find out is the nephew of Dylan Cooper in this episode) who is able to offer the name of the “somewhere” because he saw a woman with a red-haired thug head that way. Eliza knows the woman is the one who threatened her.
Fortunately, they all get to the location in time. Police Commissioner Fitzroy is saved and the Russians are taken care of.
It turns out that the woman is known as The Governess, and she is part of the British Intelligence Service. The Governess is her codename, and she works for a secretive part of British Intelligence. I get the sense that she works for something like the SIS or MI6, but I didn’t recognize the QD3 name that she mentioned. I doubt that this is the last we’ll see of The Governess.
Ivy and Mr. Potts get married in Miss Scarlet
After a season of wondering if the wedding would ever happen, it finally did in the Miss Scarlet season 5 finale. This was after Eliza saw all of Mr. Potts’s things in the house. I’m sure she’ll start to regret agreeing to Mr. Potts moving in with her. He is quickly trying to take control of Eliza’s house and lifestyle.
As Mr. Potts and Ivy leave for their honeymoon, Eliza learns that Sophia was ill and that’s why Blake isn’t there. Eliza decides to go over with some wedding cake for them, and there’s a spark at the door, just like there have been sparks here and there throughout the season.
Blake initially closes the door, but he decides to rush back and call for Eliza. She hasn’t left the doorstep, though. It’s clear she was thinking of knocking again. As Blake asks if she would like to come in, she immediately answers that she would. It’s time for something to happen between the two of them.
