5 major takeaways from the Outlander: Blood of My Blood trailer to get us ready

Je suis prest! That’s how we feel about Outlander: Blood of My Blood, which premieres on Friday, Aug. 8. There’s not long left to wait!

The prequel series will drop not one but two episodes to mark the beginning of these love stories. Yes, there are two love stories in this series, following the lives of the two sets of parents of Claire and Jamie Fraser.

The trailer for Outlander: Blood of My Blood was released last month, and a lot of focus was immediately on the fact that both Henry and Julie travel to the past. However, there’s much more to take away from this epic trailer.

Murtagh could cause a problem in Outlander: Blood of My Blood

There’s a clip of Ellen and Brian together in a forest, and Murtagh is watching them. He has a look of anger on his face, before he rushes off as if he’s going to tell people all about this meet up. Could he be a problem?

It’s weird looking at Murtagh not supporting this relationship considering how he would go on to be Jamie’s godfather. Of course, we know that he was once in love with Ellen MacKenzie, though, and this could be his jealousy getting in the way. Maybe he does go off to tell Colum and Dougal about Ellen and Brian, only to eventually regret his decision.

Claire’s mother is the one who encourages Jamie’s mom

We roughly know the story of Ellen and Brian in the words of Murtagh and Jamie in Outlander. However, it turns out that there is far more to the story, and the Outlander: Blood of My Blood trailer gives us a look at how Claire’s mom is the one to encourage the love story happening.

She ends up in the past, and she meets with Ellen. It sounds like Julia is the one to tell Ellen that she needs to give into her heart. It’s time to “go to him,” presumably referring to Brian. What I’m curious about is why Ellen feels like she can trust in Julia to share her deepest thoughts.

An engagement is likely to happen in the Outlander prequel

In the past, we see Ellen MacKenzie with Malcolm Grant, hinting that there is an engagement formed between the two of them. This isn’t all that surprising when you consider the story that was told. The MacKenzies and the Grants aren’t the best of friends, but combining their families would help to stop the feuds.

Well, Ellen needs to find a way out of this situation. Now it makes sense why she would just run away and stay away until it was clear her marriage to Brian couldn’t be annulled.

Henry may travel forward in time

We know that Henry ends up back in the past with Julia. He’s seen talking to Ned Gowan toward the end of the Outlander: Blood of My Blood trailer, but keep watching. There’s a hint that Henry goes forward in time first.

He ends up somewhere with a World War II memorial. Considering he is from the generation of World War I, this is suspicious. How much will Henry learn about time travel, and what will he learn about himself in the future?

We will get some of two wars

We know that Julia and Henry’s storyline takes place during World War I at times. It’s clear that we’ll get some of that, with Julia looking out of windows as bombs drop on London. Although, I have to say that some of that looks like it could even be World War II!

However, there’s another war to fight. This one takes place in 1715, and it’s all about the Jacobites. Yes, there is the First Jacobite Rebellion to come, and this could show us why Dougal is so focused on putting James Stuart on the throne in the 1740s.
