The Miss Scarlet season 6 premiere mostly focused on the case and on Eliza and Blake’s relationship, but there was another storyline that hints to have a bigger part in the upcoming season. It’s all about Mr. Wormsley, who was acting out of the ordinary during the episode.
Many people noted that there was an issue. Barnabus was the first, but we could also hear the frustration in Blake’s voice when he learned that Wormsley wasn’t at the morgue. This led to issues for the police, as autopsies were backed up.
Of course, the first suggestion would be that Mr. Wormsley has developed a drinking problem, but that’s just too obvious. What else could be going on, and how could it connect to Eliza Scarlet’s skills?

Is Mr. Wormsley in debt with someone on Miss Scarlet?
For Mr. Wormsley not to be at his regular job until the end of the working day on the Miss Scarlet season 6 premiere, it would suggest that he is busy doing something else. That could be working another job, whether it’s to make more money or it’s to pay off some sort of debt. There is a chance that he could have ended up in debt to some loan sharks, and now he needs to do their bidding.
Considering the time, there could be some sort of mob boss making Wormsley do his bidding, or it could just be that Mr. Wormsley is struggling financially and has needed a second job.
Whatever the reason, money isn’t something people would want to talk about, especially not with people they work with or who work for them. So, with Barnabus questioning Wormsley, it wouldn’t be surprising that he kicked Barnabus out due to embarrassment.

Could Wormsley be linked to Moses Valentine’s return on Miss Scarlet season 6?
If Wormsley is involved with the wrong people, it could lead to a case for Miss Scarlet. However, I can’t help but note that there’s a returning face to the season. It’s all about Moses Valentine, who seems to need Eliza’s help due to his own troubles.
It could be possible that the two men are involved with the same people. This could help to condense a storyline for the season, since there are only six episodes to tell the tale, and it would help to quickly pull Eliza into the situation.
For now, we’ll have to wait. Barnabus doesn’t seem to be fighting for his job. He’s happy doing the house duties and writing his memoir, so he won’t worry himself with Mr. Wormsley’s situation. We’ll likely get teasers of it throughout Miss Scarlet season 6.
Miss Scarlet season 6 airs on Sundays at 8/7c on PBS.
