While Call the Midwife season 14 has come to the end, it’s not the end of the series. In fact, it’s not just a new season that’s happening. The entire universe is expanding, as the series continues to capture hearts and minds.

Yes, the universe is expanding in two ways. The movie is likely the main focus for many, especially as there are so many question marks around it. However, there’s also going to be a prequel series, which is set to bring something that Call the Midwife season 14 teased: birthing babies during the Blitz!

Call the Midwife movie will be set in 1972

The Call the Midwife movie is on the minds of many, and it will include many of the characters from Poplar we have already come to know and love. A group will travel on an adventure, but we don’t yet know where that adventure will take place.

The TV series is currently set in 1970, but the movie will be set two years later. That suggests that it will come out after Call the Midwife season 15, which is sure to be set in 1971. It will also likely come out after the Christmas special in 2026 to keep the timeline intact.

Could it be linked to this year’s Christmas special? That possible considering the two-part special will partially take place in Hong Kong!

Heading back to the Blitz in the Call the Midwife prequel series

On top of the movie, there is going to be a Call the Midwife prequel series. This is set to take place during World War II, which makes sense considering some of the conversations that Sister Julienne and Sister Monica Joan had during Call the Midwife season 14.

When Sister Julienne delivered twins from a mom living in squalor, she shared that it reminded her of delivering babies in the Blitz. It was hard work with just wit and God’s will to look toward. Then Sister Monica Joan spent some time telling the young Scouts about her time during World War II, and what Poplar looked like back then.

There’s no doubt that medical care during a time of war is fascinating. It takes us back to some of the older practices, especially in a time when medicine didn’t have the technology or the vaccinations that we have today!

Like with the movie, there are no dates for the release just yet. There’s also no confirmation that we’ll see younger versions of the two Sisters, but we certainly hope we will!

Call the Midwife is available to stream on Netflix and PBS Masterpiece.
