Buck had the perfect argument against Roger in Outlander

When Roger shared why he didn't tell Buck about his parents in Outlander season 7, episode 15, Buck had the perfect argument against it.

Buck finally learned about his biological parents in Outlander season 7, episode 15. It came with an argument about Roger not telling him the truth, and the perfect reasoning why Roger should have told him something.

I do defend Roger in not saying anything to Buck about Geillis and Dougal being his parents. At the time, it made a lot of sense. There was a lot more going on, and bringing up the fact that he was meeting his biological parents wasn’t really on the mind of anyone at the time. Well, except Roger as he realized just who was going to be treating Buck’s heart condition.

However, I do think Roger should have said something afterward or at least before they left. Eventually, Buck needed to learn about his biological parents, and I don’t blame him for being angry that Roger kept this from him.

Roger’s argument not telling Buck the truth was flawed in Outlander

Roger tried to claim that they could change history. However, his argument was heavily flawed, and Buck pointed that out to him. Why was Roger allowed to meet his dad and send him back through the stones when Buck wasn’t allowed to know about his biological parents? It didn’t make sense and showed that Roger was acting selfishly.

Buck’s right in that someone shouldn’t know more about a man than the man knows himself. Roger had a duty to share that his parents were in this time.

I get that Roger may have been worried that Buck would have acted in a way that changed history, but for all they know, Roger has changed history. Jerry MacKenzie may have supposed to have stayed in the past based on the fact that Roger doesn’t have any new memories of his dad.

Did Buck and Roger help to create the first meeting for Dougal and Geillis?

Buck also brought up that maybe things are playing out the way they were supposed to. Had Roger and Buck not gone to Geillis’s house, Dougal wouldn’t have gone there to find Roger. This would have meant that Geillis and Dougal wouldn’t have met, and it could have led to Buck never being born.

Maybe it’s all fate. Maybe this was how it was always meant to play out, and Buck was never going to change anything.

And he has a point. Buck and Roger don’t really know how time travel works. They’re working with assumptions based on things that they have seen happen.

Buck is also a smart man. While he would have been shocked, he was able to find a way to fit into 1980 with Bree and Roger’s help. He took on the idea of time travel and his death exceptionally well. Shouldn’t Roger have given him ore credit in telling him about his biological parents?

In the end, Buck seems to have forgiven Roger for not saying something. The initial shock and anger died down to one of understanding, getting back to the real reason they were in the past anyway. But Buck had a brilliant argument against Roger in Outlander, and I wish we could see more of him.
