The Outlander season 7 finale is almost upon us. Let’s break down the promo and synopsis to get an idea of what to expect.
I don’t want to believe that another Droughtlander is almost here. We just get the show back, and we already head into another lengthy break. However, here we are, and it’s time to get ready for an epic finale.
There’s a lot going on at the moment. While Outlander season 7, episode 15 ended with a life on the line, we also have to wonder where Mandy, Jem, and Brianna are, and what William will do now that he needs to save Jane. The promo and synopsis give us some ideas.
Take a look at both the promo and synopsis for the Outlander season 7 finale before we dive into the breakdown.
“William asks for help from an unexpected source in his mission to save Jane.”
William turns to Lord John Grey for help
The synopsis tells us that William turns to someone unexpected to help with saving Jane. The promo makes it clear that he turns to Lord John Grey. This is likely just the starting point, as he tries to figure out what to do. After all, Jane was arrested by British soldiers, and Lord John Grey has been asked to take up his commission again, so may have a way in.
The unexpected source is likely to be Jamie, though. There’s a part of the promo that tells us that.
William takes Frances to the church
We can see William rushing Frances past a building in the promo. That building clearly looks like the church, which was used as a military hospital during the Battle of Monmouth. Claire is currently there, and we know from an image that Lord John Grey gets there as Claire is recuperating—yes, she survives.

William is likely going to turn to Jamie for help. He knows that he can trust Jamie to look out for Frances, but he also needs Jamie’s skills in breaking someone out of prison. There’s also a short clip in the promo for Frances with Jamie, and I think that’s Jamie in the mask breaking into a house.
Brianna doesn’t seem too panicked
Bree makes it through the stones. There’s a clear visual of her, but it’s not clear which time period she is in. It’s also not clear if the children make it through with her. However, Brianna is far too calm for her children not to be with her.
We know what should happen based on the book. Just looking at Brianna’s smile and a look of shock on Roger’s face earlier in the promo, it does look like the two will be reunited.
Jamie isn’t going back to fight in the Outlander season 7 finale
Jamie made a dramatic show of a resignation in the previous episode. Well, Young Ian rides up to Jamie to find out if it’s all true. Has Jamie really resigned?
The biggest question is whether George Washington will accept it. Jamie says that he has to, but he doesn’t really. Washington could force Jamie back into the fight or arrest him. The question is whether Washington will understand Jamie’s decision.
Lord John Grey is back with the British
Up to this point, poor Lord John Grey has been arrested as a spy and then had to pretend to be a rebel. It looks like he’s back home with the British. After saving William from the Hessians, he was able to get back to a British camp, and it offers a little bit of safety for him.
However, he’s not going to stay there for long. He needs to see his sort-of-ex-wife as she recovers from being shot. Despite how everything is going between Lord John Grey and the Frasers, he still cares about Claire and he will be worried.
The Outlander season 7 finale airs on Friday, Jan. 17 on STARZ.
