We’re well over the halfway point of Outlander: Blood of My Blood season 1. After spending an episode focused on Henry and Julia’s stories, it’s time to head back to the love story of Ellen and Brian in Outlander: Blood of My Blood season 1, episode 7.

Of course, there are still some clips of Henry and Julia in the new episode. There’s a lot going on, with worlds threatening to collide very soon. However, this is also a story of grief as well as love after the events of episode 6.

Take a look at the promo and synopsis for Outlander: Blood of My Blood season 1, episode 7 before we get into the breakdown:

"Lord Lovat goes to extreme lengths to fulfill a prophecy; Dougal attends a clandestine meeting that could spell political disaster for the MacKenzies"

Murtagh could threaten to expose the truth in Outlander: Blood of My Blood

During episode 5, Murtagh saw Brian and Ellen together. While Brian didn’t mean to betray Murtagh, he has. Brian knew that Murtagh was interested in Ellen, but that he hadn’t managed to get the courage to even speak with her. Brian did manage that, not even really realizing who he was speaking with at the time.

Now Murtagh tells Brian that he knows that Brian and Ellen are sneaking around together. Will he expose more? This could threaten the MacKenzies and the Frasers. Of course, we know how things end with Murtagh and the Fraser family, so how does it get from this point to that point?

Simon doesn’t even realize that the seeds of doubt are true

During the Beltane Festival, Henry brought up the fact that there are doubts of Ellen’s virtue to Ned Gowan. That word has gotten back to Simon Fraser, and he’s happy about it. The problem is, Brian and Ellen have been together, and therefore, the rumors are now somewhat true.

What will happen as Simon realizes the whole truth? That has to eventually come out, but will Simon be happy about a union between the MacKenzies and Frasers or not? He’s enemies with the MacKenzies, but there are benefits to Brian stealing the beloved Ellen away.

Henry wants to head back to his own time in Outlander: Blood of My Blood season 1, episode 7

It’s clear that Henry breaks out of this break from reality through grief from Outlander: Blood of My Blood season 1, episode 6. Now he’s ready to head back to his own time. It has bothered me that Henry hasn’t even thought of Claire throughout his time in the past, but I’m not sure that it’s really Claire that pushes him to return.

We know that Henry doesn’t go back, though. The promo hints that Arch Bug gathers men to prevent it, but why are they so hellbent on keeping Henry with them? Sure, they don’t know he’s heading to the stones to travel to his own time, and they think he’s just trying to leave the Grants. But what’s the deal with needing him around? Do they actually think that he’s a spy?

Dougal MacKenzie threatens the clan yet again

We know from the synopsis that Dougal heads to a clandestine meeting that is political in nature. This would suggest that it’s linked to the Jacobite Rebellion that’s set to happen. After all, we’re getting closer to 1715, and that’s the beginning of this.

This meeting is going to threaten the MacKenzie clan again. Dougal and Colum need to be aligned in this, but they never have been. And we’ll get to see how that can end up playing out, especially with the questions about Ellen’s virtue.

Colum realizes that his sister actually holds the power

Throughout the first six episodes, Colum has tried to take over the clan and run things his way. Okay, he’s needed his brother’s support as well, but he didn’t want to listen to Ellen’s advice. She’s had to manipulate things in the shadows, as we’ve mentioned before at ClaireandJamie.com.

It looks like Colum realizes that his sister has held all the power after all. Her marriage to the Grants could help him, but it’s clear that Ellen doesn’t want this. Is he finally realizing that if she actively works against her brothers that the MacKenzie clan is doomed?

Outlander: Blood of My Blood airs on Fridays on STARZ.
