There were some excellent moments in the Outlander: Blood of My Blood season 1 finale. We got to see couples come together, but there are questions about whether they will stay together.
This is a chance to look back at the episode, breaking down some of the bigger moments. There were some excellent elements of character and story development throughout, bringing us closer to what we know of certain characters in Outlander.
Of course, there was also plenty of drama involved. Now is the time to look back and assess the best moments. They’re not necessarily about the main characters, but they do push the story forward in Outlander: Blood of My Blood season 2.

Murtagh supporting Brian and Ellen
I adored seeing Murtagh realizes that Brian and Ellen are meant to be together. They have a love that people can only dream of, and he can’t stand in the way of them. He also can’t be bitter for them, and that leads to him talking Brian through Ellen’s words as the two are trying to fight for their lives.
There was humor in this scene, but there was also a lot of love in the Outlander: Blood of My Blood season 1 finale. We get to see cousins join back together as friends, and we know how it all plays out for Murtagh from here.
Jocasta, Ellen, and Janet reconnecting
As Ellen prepares for her wedding, there’s a chance for the three sisters to reconnect. Ellen now knows what it was like for her sisters, and all she can do is apologize for her part in it all. She can’t change the past, but she can, at least, make up for it from this point forward.

Both of her sisters accept her apology, and it makes for a great moment when Brian starts to work his way through Castle Leoch dressed as a Grant. Jocasta wouldn’t have helped Ellen without that apology!

Julia protecting Davina in Outlander: Blood of My Blood
There has been a wonderful friendship between Julia and Davina develop, as we’ve mentioned before at ClaireandJamie.com. We got to see, potentially, the last of it in Outlander: Blood of My Blood season 1, episode 10. Julia and Davina said their goodbyes, but Julia needed to make sure that Davina wouldn’t end up hurt because of her decisions.
So, she set it up so that Davina could tell Simon that Henry had taken Julia and William. This would make it look like Julia hadn’t ran away on her own accord, and it was a beautiful moment of women supporting and protecting each other.
Dougal and Maura getting married
We knew that Ellen couldn’t end up marrying Malcolm, so who would get married at Leoch? Well, it all played out so that Dougal was the one who had to take one for the team. Dougal and Maura ended up getting married, and now I look forward to seeing what comes with the two of them in Outlander: Blood of My Blood season 2.
There was a great scene in the bedroom, as we get a look at Maura’s personality. She is a matter-of-fact person, and she just wanted to get things done and the marriage consummated, so that she could return to the festivities. It was a wonderful twist to the episode.

The pearl necklace and the bracelets in the Outlander: Blood of My Blood season 1 finale
Finally, we get two connections to Outlander. Toward the start of the episode, Ellen received a pearl necklace. She never said who it came from, but we know about that from Outlander. Then toward the end of the episode, we see Murtagh give Ellen the tusk bracelets.

While there are some elements of canon changed, there are others that stick around. We know that Ellen keeps the gifter of the tusk bracelets a secret, and now we can see how and why that happens. It’s perfect.
