Secrets are starting to come out in Outlander: Blood of My Blood season 1, episode 7, and it’s leading to a mixture of emotions. There is certainly fear for Ellen and Brian, but Simon Fraser is ready to rejoice about some of the big reveals.
Caution: This post contains SPOILERS for Outlander: Blood of My Blood season 1, episode 7.
The latest episode put a lot of focus on Simon Fraser, as he focuses on how to make sure his son becomes the King of Scotland. There is a lot of manipulation and scheming going on, and while he’s so focused on that, things are working for him in other ways.
At the same time, people are working against him. Julia and Davina have now teamed up to protect each other, and it’s time for a bit of humor. Here are my top moments from Outlander: Blood of My Blood season 1, episode 7. As we've said before at Claire and Jamie, these aren't necessarily about favorite characters or positive moments, but they're about how they push the story forward and develop supporting characters as well.
Simon’s decision for a Protestant baptism in Outlander: Blood of My Blood season 1, episode 7
I do love that we get to start with Brian ensuring Baby Beauchamp has the name Julia wants at first, but I also love Simon Fraser’s scheming. Lord Lovat is one of those real figures from history who has always fascinated me, so to see the scheming play out in the show is exciting.
We see him choose a Protestant baptism rather than a Catholic one, despite him being Catholic. Well, there is a major reason for that. A Catholic can’t be king in the eyes of the law. It doesn’t mean the baby can’t convert later on to become the King of Scotland, but for now, he can at least legally get onto the throne in the eyes of English law.

Julia and Davina working together against Simon
We need to see how women can stick together in the past, and that finally happens in Outlander: Blood of My Blood season 1, episode 7. Davina knows the full truth, and she fully accepts that Julia did what she needed to do. She also doesn’t seem to judge her.
Instead, they’re focused on survival, and that means making it hard for Simon to be able to sleep with Julia anymore. I love the scene in Julia’s room as she’s grounding up the “spice” that cook is going to put in Simon’s food. It’s the first time I’ve really seen personality in Davina, and the two giggling schoolgirls was the perfect way to show it.
Ellen continuing to protect the MacKenzie family
Ellen wants out of the marriage to the Grants, but there’s no way about that just yet. Instead, she needs to make sure her family is protected as much as possible. That means focusing on not looking cheap, and ensuring Dougal doesn’t mess things up.
We get to see how she’s able to think of a plan on the fly. Colum can’t do much to stop Dougal at the Jacobite meeting, but Ellen stands somewhat of a chance. Now if only Dougal would actually listen to her. And if only the Grants didn’t take Simon’s word for things.

Glenna learning about the handfasting in Outlander: Blood of My Blood
As Glenna goes through material, she sees the Fraser tartan. It doesn’t take her long to realize what’s happened, and she’s shocked to find out that Ellen would be handfasted, especially to a Fraser.
I do love that her first thought is Murtagh. She knows that Murtagh has an eye for Ellen, but she would also be worried for her nephew if they did something so reckless. The downside to all of this is that Ellen’s virtue is in question, and there are few options for her to get out of trouble.
Julia finding Henry’s letter to Simon Fraser
The very end of Outlander: Blood of My Blood season 1, episode 7 offers hope for Julia and Henry reunited. Up to this point, Julia has assumed that Henry is in their own time with Claire. As she looks at paperwork on Simon’s desk, she sees Henry’s handwriting, and she shows a mixture of emotions.
I love that she recognizes Henry’s handwriting right away, and it makes sense that she would considering how their relationship started. I also love that it is a letter that gives it away, but she just doesn’t know that Henry believes her and their child dead. I can’t wait for Outlander: Blood of My Blood season 1, episode 8 to see what Julia will do to get to her husband.
Outlander: Blood of My Blood airs on Fridays on STARZ.
