Julia Beauchamp continues to face an arduous journey in Outlander: Blood of My Blood season 1, episode 4. However, there is a bit of hope at the end.
Caution: This post contains SPOILERS for Blood of My Blood season 1, episode 4.
Julia remains stuck in the past, but she has a brain on her shoulders. She knows about plants, and she’s ready to use that knowledge to her advantage. This offers her a glimpse of hope, while she also comes across Ellen MacKenzie in a chance to support Jamie Fraser’s parents getting together.
It’s time to look back at Julia’s top moments from the episode. The ending certainly added another layer of twists and turns to the story.
Believing in the fairy folk in Outlander: Blood of My Blood
As Julia spills some milk, Davina questions whether Julia even thanks the fairy folk. Julia quickly offers to give an offering to the fairies, making it clear that she isn’t knocking any superstitions. In fact, she knows that there’s a chance they are real. How else did she come to the past?
Finally, we get to see a smart woman who isn’t afraid to believe in something supernatural. Not only does she show respect to the local people, but she also shows that she wants to understand everything that has happened to her so far.

Figuring out a way to get out of Castle Leathers
Up to this point, Julia has tried to escape and failed. What she hasn’t tried to do is use herbs and plants to her advantage. She decides to pick up a plant that will cause her to break out in a rash, knowing that it’s sure to allow her to get out of Castle Leathers.
It doesn’t quite work to her advantage, as she ends up with Brian escorting her to the apothecary. However, it does allow her to get to know Brian more, and it gives her a glimmer of hope of getting out.
Thinking on her toes in Castle Leoch
Brian made it clear that a servant going to see another servant isn’t unusual, and he tells Julia that Glenna Fitzgibbons is in Castle Leoch and is Murtagh’s aunt. That gives her plenty of information to be able to explain her being there should she get caught.
Well, Julia immediately gets caught, and she immediately thinks on the spot. Not only does she have to tell a man that she needs to get to Glenna, but she then has to come up with a story when she sees Glenna. Julia would be great as an MI6 spy in World War II!

Comforting Henry during his PTSD nightmare in Blood of My Blood
We’ve already seen that Julia accepts Henry’s nightmares and doesn’t judge. That continues in this episode, as we see Henry suffer a nightmare that takes him out of his bed. Julia immediately gets on the floor with him and just holds him.
This is also stressful for her, and we certainly see that. However, she isn’t blaming him for any of this. She just wants to be able to help him, and offering him her St. Anthony necklace is the way to do that. It’s a beautiful and loving moment.
Telling Simon Fraser that she’s pregnant
At the end of Outlander: Blood of My Blood season 1, episode 3, Julia headed to Simon’s room. She had no choice but to make him think that her child is his. That’s come up at the end of the episode, as Simon makes another advance on Julia. It’s clear that they didn’t just spend one night together, and now Simon wants more.
She chooses now as the time to tell him that she is pregnant with his child. Davina hears it all, and she’s shocked. The look on Julia’s face tells us that she’s worried about how this could play out, but she has to look out for herself and her unborn baby. She continues to think on her feet and figure out ways to survive.
Outlander: Blood of My Blood airs on Fridays on STARZ.
