Jamie Fraser took control of his troops in Outlander season 7, episode 14. Here are the top moments of his from the episode.
This episode saw the buildup to the Battle of Monmouth. This meant we had to see Jamie take control of the troops that he will command. He has command of 300 troops—well, 299 by the end of it—and we got a chance to see how he would lead.
Of course, we’ve seen Jamie lead in the past. We’ve seen how he gets men ready for a battle, and it was good to see not much has changed in that style.
Encouraging his troops in the muster line
The episode saw Jamie check out the men who he would end up commanding. This gave him a chance to find out a little about them and see how much experience in fighting they have. Well, like with Culloden and the Battle of Alamance, these men don’t have that much experience. That’s not something that deters Jamie, though.
We got to see how good of a leader he is. This isn’t a man fighting to be respected. He gains respect by being supportive. We get to see how he hands a man a rifle because he doesn’t have one, and the new see how he puts them through drills—as we know from the leadup to Prestonpans, this is how he creates good soldiers.
Helping with the treatment of Lord John Grey
Considering Jamie was the one to do the damage to Lord John Grey, he could have just walked away after taking the man prisoner. Instead, Jamie helps Claire to make sure John’s eye is treated. Remember just an episode ago, there was a hint of a little guilt over what he did, although he’s not completely sorry.
After making a joke about the honey—which didn’t quite land since Claire was using the honey to help with the healing process—Jamie then went to hold onto Lord John Grey. He needed to make sure John didn’t move to help fix some of the damage he caused.
“Our son”
Some may want to hate Jamie for not rushing to save William right away, but he had a point. It’s that whole debate over 10 strangers and one sibling. Who would you save? Jamie is right that one person doesn’t come before 300 others.
However, he didn’t stop Lord John Grey from going to help William. In fact, he said one of the best lines of the series. Go to save “our son.” The two have this fun co-parenting dynamic going on right now, and I would love to see more of it.
