It’s time for the Trial of Seven on A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms season 1 episode 5, but the preview also gives us a hint that we’re going to the past. How did Dunk become Ser Arlan’s squire?

During A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms season 1 episode 4, Dunk found the six knights to fight alongside him. It wasn’t easy, and it took just a surprise addition at the very end, as Prince Baelor joined Dunk’s side. He clearly knows that Dunk was doing the right think when it came to protecting Tanselle.

Now it’s time to see the Trial of Seven take place. Who will make it out alive?

Prince Baelor has some wise words on A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms season 1 episode 5

We are sure to see Baelor take over as the leader of the six other knights fighting on his side — well, Dunk’s side. He has some wise words as well, “Don’t die.”

Of course, this cuts to both Raymun and Dunk throwing up, as the two have never fought before. Raymun has only just been knighted, and Dunk hasn’t had a chance to prove himself yet. This is their chance, and it genuinely is a life-or-death situation.

The speech helps to set the tone, as well, as we hear how the various gods are being prayed to. This is a chance to prove the innocence of people. While Dunk did strike Aerion, it was for the right reason, but can he prove that he is worthy of the gods’ protection?

A trip to the past on A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms

The promo also shows us that we’ll get a bit of the past. A young Dunk is with another child, presumably somewhere in King’s Landing. They’re supposed to be escaping, but is that going to happen? After all, somehow, this boy needs to end up with Ser Arlan.

Is that what this episode will show? Will it give us a look at why Ser Arlan took him on as a squire? There is a beautiful moment as a young Dunk picks up a helmet and then it changes to Dunk in the present day putting his new helmet on to get ready for the trial.

Egg is on the sideline, watching and cheering for his knight. Like many others, he knows that Aerion was in the wrong, and he needs to see Dunk succeed. Maybe then he can squire for Dunk in the future.

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms airs on Sundays at 10/9c on HBO and HBO Max.
