It’s clear that Egg is hiding something big on A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, and the third episode suggests that we could learn what that is. If not, we could get a few more teases.
The title of the episode is “The Squire,” and that certainly hints at something toward Egg. This young boy is well spoken, and it’s clear he feared the idea of the Targaryens coming to the tourney. Dunk doesn’t seem to realize that Egg is hiding something major, and that’s what makes this friendship so cute.
Egg wants to be a squire on A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms season 1 episode 3
Egg has managed to convince Dunk to let him be his squire for the tourney. However, after it’s all said and done, Egg wants to stick around in that role. It’s clear that he’s running from something, and at least he’s found a good man to turn to in this.
However, Egg doesn’t quite have what it takes to be a squire. He can’t even get a horse to move, and Dunk will need to teach him a few skills in being a squire.
More importantly, Dunk doesn’t even know what will happen after the tourney. If he ends up losing, he’ll need to find a way to get money together to buy his horses and armor back, and he’s already had to sell one horse just to get the armor. Will he even need a squire when the tourney is done?

Dunk needs to choose an opponent
Dunk is ready to face the dragon on A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. He thinks that he and Aerion Targaryen are evenly matched, but he clearly doesn’t know the Targaryens that well. I get it, though. He wants to prove himself so that the Targaryens will take him in, but this isn’t the family he really wants to end up with.
Raymun Fossoway makes it clear that the Targaryens are not the ones to go up to. He even thinks they're aliens!
The synopsis tells us that Dunk gets a proposition from the Ashford steward that he can’t turn down. Could this be to face off against the dragon prince, or will it be to face off someone a little easier?
Of course, we know from the promo for the season that he’s going to end up in a trial by combat after getting into a fight with Aerion. It’s possible that this happens in the new episode, since it gets us to the halfway point of the season.
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms airs on Sundays at 10/9c on HBO and HBO Max.
