There’s a new Game of Thrones series on its way. A Knight of the Seven Kingdom takes place in between House of the Dragon and Game of Thrones, and it tells the story of Ser Duncan the Tall, a hedge knight who wants to become one of the greats.
Along his journey, he comes across a young boy named Egg, who becomes his squire. However, Egg is hiding something big, and Dunk is sure to question everything when he learns the truth.
Of course, you want to jump straight into the series as soon as you can, and that means questioning whether it’s a series for the children. This is a Game of Thrones series, so what do you think?

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms age rating: Explaining the TV-MA rating
Like the other two shows in the universe, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is officially rated TV-MA. This means it’s aimed at those over the age of 18. While it’s not as graphic as Game of Thrones or House of the Dragon, there are some moments that are unsuitable for children, and it’s best to let them go to bed first.
While we’ve watched some of the screeners, we’re not delving into spoilers. What we will put is some teases to warn you of the type of content to expect.
Sex & nudity: Like with any Game of Thrones show, there is nudity and sex. It’s not as graphic as the other shows; at least, not in the first two episodes. This whole story is told via Dunk’s perspective, so we only get to see what he knows, and it does help to limit some of the graphic elements of the story.
Violence & gore: This is where the show is sure to earn the TV-MA, as the earlier scenes are already on the heavy side. There’s a tourney that Dunk wants to prove himself in, and you know that means injuries and potential death. During the second episode, Dunk watches a tourney at night, and there are certainly some injuries that are sure to come up later on in the series.
Language: Yes, the F-bomb is dropped a few times. I don’t remember hearing the C-word, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it comes up at a later date. This is a series heavy in the language, so if that’s something you don’t like, then you won’t want to watch.
Alcohol & drugs: What could people do in the past other than drink? To be honest, alcohol was often safer than the water to drink. While A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is fantasy, there’s a historical element to it, and that’s why it’s not surprising that there is a lot of alcohol. There’s even a whole party in a tent during the first episode, which sees multiple characters drunk.
Overall verdict: Who is A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms appropriate for?
While the series isn’t as graphic as its universe predecessors, this is officially rated TV-MA. It’s sure to get heavier as the season goes on, especially when it comes to violence. I’d stay away from watching this while the children are awake.
Watch the first episode yourself, so you can get an idea of what to expect. As this is told from Dunk’s perspective, it helps to limit some of the graphic material, but you, as a parent, gets to make the final call.
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms airs on Sundays at 10/9c on HBO and streams on HBO Max.
