Bridgerton Season 3 is moving onto another member of the titular family, Colin. Do you need to watch the previous seasons first?
Each season has put the focus on different members of the Bridgerton family. It can make it seem like the series is more of an anthology, allowing you to jump straight into the new season that comes up. Now that we know Bridgerton Season 3 is coming in May and June of next year, there’s no doubt that you’re looking at previous seasons and whether they’re worth watching.
They are definitely worth watching if you love period romances. Do you need to watch them to understand the events of Season 3, though? After all, the series is moving onto Colin Bridgerton and Penelope Featherington.
Watch all seasons of Bridgerton to understand the complete story
This is not an anthology series, so you will want to watch the first two seasons of the series before Season 3. While some of the main characters from previous seasons won’t return, there are storylines in earlier seasons that connect to the main characters in Season 3.
For example, Penelope and Colin have been in the previous two seasons. We’ve seen Peneleope’s crush for Colin develop, and the end of the second season sets up her story in the third season. She heard things she didn’t want to, and now she realizes that it is time for her to move on.
The synopsis for the third season offers a few spoilers as to some of Penelope’s storyline in the previous two seasons. You can take a look at Deadline for the full synopsis if you want, but if you’re planning on catching up, you’ll want to avoid it. The first two seasons introduce us to Lady Whistledown. Think of her as Gossip Girl, and we get a huge reveal of who Lady Whistledown is throughout the first two seasons of the show that connects to the third season storyline.
Bridgerton is available to stream on Netflix.
