Will STARZ cancel Outlander and Blood of My Blood in 2023?
As the WGA strike looks to come to an end, more networks are making decisions about shows. STARZ has canceled three, but is one of them Outlander?
There is some good news in Hollywood. The WGA strike is potentially coming to an end. It just requires all the writers to sign off on it, and it sounds like a good deal. The SAG-AFTRA strike continues, but now the studios can negotiate with the actors’ union with the WGA deal in mind.
However, just after news that the strike action was potentially coming to an end, STARZ released news that three of its shows are canceled. A new series that was in development has also been scrapped. Are any of them Outlander shows?
STARZ has not canceled Outlander or Blood of My Blood
There is some good news for fans of the time traveling drama. Outlander has not been canceled. The eighth season is still set to happen. Blood of My Blood is also still set to happen.
According to TVLine, Heels, Run the World, and Blindspotting are the three shows canceled. All three had aired their second seasons earlier this year, and they were caught in limbo due to the strike action. They were also all shows affected by the SAG-AFTRA strike as well as the writers strike.
The Venery of Samantha Bird is the new show that has been scrapped. Six out of eight episodes had been filmed before the strike action caused a shutdown, so this is a surprising decision. Like the other two shows, it was affected by the SAG-AFTRA strike as well as the WGA strike, so it could be that that’s caused this decision.
Outlander and Blood of My Blood aren’t affected by the SAG-AFTRA strike. Once the WGA contract has been fully ratified, it will be possible for the two shows to pick things up again. The delay won’t be as heavy as with other shows, which will likely keep them on the air. Plus, Outlander Season 8 is set to be the last, so it makes sense for STARZ to keep it in production. The universe overall is popular, so STARZ will expect great things for the prequel, keeping that in production too.
