Will Outlander Season 8 still happen on STARZ?

STARZ renewed Outlander for an eighth and final season, but now the season will be delayed. Will that lead to it being canceled?

There was a time that we feared Outlander Season 7 would be the last. Then STARZ confirmed that Season 8 would happen. It is the final season of the time traveling drama, and it will only have 10 episodes. At least it’s happening.

However, the season is going to be delayed. While the SAG-AFTRA strikes won’t affect it, the show is affected by the WGA strikes. Until the writers come to a fair deal and return to work, the scripts aren’t being written. There is nothing to film.

Could that mean this final season won’t happen at all? Will STARZ “unrenew” the show in a similar way to Amazon unrenewing The Peripheral and A League of Their Own?

Outlander Season 8 is still likely to happen

It’s unlikely that STARZ is going to cancel this series. There would be a lot of uproar, and STARZ knows that Outlander is one of the most popular shows on the network.

The linear ratings don’t make it look like it’s still all that popular. However, the linear ratings from Neilsen don’t count those who watch on the app. These ratings only count those who watch on the channel during the first showing of the show. STARZ will look at all the ratings, which means those who watch on the app are counted.

If Outlander was going to be canceled, that would have happened already. What we may see instead is the season reduced slightly. Maybe we’ll only see eight episodes instead of 10. However, with it being the final season, STARZ may allow this series to keep going as planned. There are other shows that are affected by both the WGA and the SAG-AFTRA strikes that could end up coming into the firing line first.
