Will the current strike action affect Outlander Season 7B?
With Outlander Season 7A coming to an end very soon, all eyes are on Outlander Season 7B. It’s supposed to come in 2024, but will it be delayed due to the current strike action?
There are a lot of questions and concerns about the current strike action in Hollywood. If you haven’t heard, the Writers Guild of America called a strike in May 2023 after contract negotiations with the studios failed. In July, SAG-AFTRA went on strike.
Now, the WGA strike did immediately cause problems for Outlander, but not for Season 7B. That season had been fully written and filmed. It’s Season 8 that is now being delayed due to the strike action. That means we don’t have to worry about Season 7B, right?
Well, you’ll see that a lot of work has now stopped in Hollywood, and not just production. Post-production work has also stopped as actors aren’t available to do additional dialogue needs or reshoots. Does that mean Outlander Season 7B is affected after all?
Outlander Season 7B is not a SAG show
Something that is mentioned a lot when it comes to the Screen Actors Guild Awards is that Outlander isn’t a SAG show. Yes, some of the actors are in the union for their work outside of Outlander, but SAG itself is not involved in the series at all. It’s a lot like House of the Dragon, which has SAG actors but they work under contract with the British union Equity.
This is great news for Season 7B. Post-production work doesn’t need to stop. While the actors may step back from the promotion work they do for it, things are trickier when it comes to contracted work like additional dialogue and any reshoots. Now, the writers wouldn’t be there to do any writing work, but the actors could be called in to voice anything that is needed that was already written—or written by someone who was outside of the WGA.
There shouldn’t be a delay to Outlander Season 7B because of the current strike action in Hollywood.
