3 best Claire moments in Outlander Season 7, Episode 5
Claire is pushed out of surgical treatments at first in Outlander Season 7, Episode 5. Here are her top three moments from the episode.
As usual, Claire is viewed as a woman who doesn’t know anything by certain men in Outlander Season 7, Episode 5. It means she can’t perform the surgeries that she wants, but she eventually finds a way in.
The episode also sees her using her memory to help Jamie. She also helps Young Ian in his moment of need. Let’s take a look at the top Claire moments from the episode in the order that they happened.
3 best Claire moments from Outlander Season 7, Episode 5
Talking about Singapore
We got to know the reason for the title of the episode early on in Outlander Season 7, Episode 5. Jamie came to Claire with concerns about how the British could attack, and she realizes that it’s a similar thing that happened 1942.
Claire notes that Singapore was taken by the Japanese as the British didn’t believe the Japanese would come through the jungle. This is just like with the Continental Army not thinking the British would attack across the water.
Claire helps Young Ian
Ian turns to Claire for some words of advice when he learns he needs to go to the Mohawk village. He’s concerned about never having children, and Claire explains that miscarriages and stillbirths happen. With his and Emily’s child not being deformed, she doesn’t think there’s anything wrong with Young Ian. It’s just the way of the world.
However, she also points out that there are a lot of medical reasons for miscarriages and stillbirths to happen. She could list them all, but she can tell that Ian doesn’t really need that. He just needs to know that it’s got nothing to do with his spirit, and Claire knows that’s not the case.
Ian often turns to Jamie for advice, but he needed Claire’s medical knowledge for this. Plus, you could tell that Claire was thinking of Faith during this moment with her expression.
Not being able to help Walter
Claire finds a way in to prove her medical knowledge. I love that Denny just listens to her and is excited to talk to someone else who clearly knows medicine. However, it’s not this moment that stands out for me in Outlander Season 7, Episode 5. It’s all about the aftermath.
It’s too soon to move Walter. We can see that Claire desperately wants to save him, but she knows that she can’t. It would do more harm to take him—not just to Walter but to so many other people who need to escape Fort Ticonderoga.
Claire isn’t leaving him with no hope, though. She makes it clear that the British should help, but gives him enough laudanum should he need to use it. This moment helps me remember the Claire from Season 1 who just helped Dougal’s friend die calmly when she realized the boar had injured him too much.
