Foreshadowing in the Outlander chapter

This chapter certainly sets things up for the next book. It’s clear that Richardson and Amaranthus will come back up in the story. There would be no other reason for Claire to warn John of Richardson or update him on Amaranthus otherwise.

I think we get some foreshadowing, though. While Marsali says that Germain going to the Ridge is for his safety, he won’t believe that. He is going to believe that she blames him for Henri-Christian’s death. Of course, we know that isn’t the case. Marsali loves each of her children, and she does just want Germain to be safe.

Something this chapter confirms is that Marsali and others know that Claire is a time traveler. This all happens off-page, but I would have loved to see the conversation happen. How did Fergus and Marsali take it? Does it foreshadow something to come? I get a sense that it foreshadows there are other time travelers who will cross Claire’s path soon.

Adapting the Written in My Own Heart’s Blood chapter

I do suspect that this chapter will be used in the series. I think we’ll see Fanny come into the Fraser’s care, and we need everything here to play out for that to make sense.

I also suspect that Richardson will become a bigger issue in the series. He has been introduced in the same way as in the books already. There are certainly suspicions about him. I still think we’ll see Richardson be that last big bad of the series, and that means a threat against John as well as the Frasers.
