Just the Outlander chapter

The chapter starts with Claire and Jamie, and their whole family, getting to Savannah. They managed to pay for everything with Marsali’s share of the gold, Jenny’s novena to St. Bride, and Claire’s acupuncture needles. Claire shouldn’t need them moving forward as she and Jamie can now travel by land back to Fraser’s Ridge. They’d have to for the mountains anyway.

However, now they are out of money. Claire wants to get her hands in the dirt of where they’re staying, so she barters with the landlady, Mrs. Landrum. She will do some work in return for the greens. She is also able to set up shop as a doctor to bring in some money. This is perfect for the family.

Jamie notes that he, Fergus, and Ian can be men lf leisure while the women work. Claire is okay with that if Jamie does the cooking. So he drizzles some honey on the bread and offers it to her. I love that they have this banter between them still.

With that, it’s time for Richard Bell to take Claire, Jamie, and Fergus to see Bonnie. Bonnie is in great shape considering everything that’s she’s been through to get her from Edinburgh to here. Fergus will be able to work with her, and then the rest of them can head north.

We also find out that Rachel and Ian have named their baby. He’s called “Oggy” has a nickname. This isn’t a permanent name, though. They needed something while they agreed on one.

At the end of the chapter, Claire notices that Richard Bell is lagging a little. She thinks that he has malaria, which isn’t surprising for the area and the trips that he would have taken. She makes a note to leave him with some Jesuit bark, which then makes her think of Lizzie. She’ll need to get a lot more for the girl.
