Outlander Book Club: Written in My Own Heart’s Blood Chapter 125 breakdown
Just the Outlander chapter
We start with the two dining at a pub while they are on the road. John is excited to try the seafood, but Dottie is a little more dubious about the situation. I can understand that on a normal level, especially back then. What if the seafood wasn’t cooked properly? At least it would be fresh with them being on a coastal town. If you’ve ever had bad seafood, you’ll know how much it can put you off for life.
Dottie and John discuss the best way to get to Savannah. John wants to go by boat. While it would be quicker, Dottie points out that it is a bad time of year for that. Her and John’s landlady told her a story of the landlady’s husband being killed in a gale out at sea.
When Dottie tries some of John’s seafood, she ends up going pale and throwing up. That’s when John asks how long she’s known she’s pregnant. Dottie confirms that five minutes ago made it known.
This opens up the door for John to wonder why some women know immediately and others don’t know until up to the birth. Dottie wants to know why so many women talk to him about this, and he explains that he knows some unusual women. I love that it’s not just Claire who he throws in there, and we know Bree has talked to him about it, too. It helps when some women know he’s gay and they don’t have a bad thing to say about that.
So, now they need to discuss where Dottie will be for the birth. She thinks of her mother in England, but she decides that she wants to be with Denny for it. John is relieved that it’s not with him, and he decides that they will have to leave Amaranthus to fend for herself for the time being. John needs to get Dottie back to New York.
