Foreshadowing in the Outlander chapter
The chapter doesn’t foreshadow too much. It focuses on this relationship Claire and Jamie have. While Claire is overwhelmed and fearing the worse. She’s having all of these flashbacks of her time when taken by Lionel’s men. There is a lot going on and there’s just this void.
We see Jamie pull her out of this. The two need each other. They are the other halves of each other’s souls, and we can see just how strong their marriage is. We also see that Claire needs to get back to Fraser’s Ridge. It’s time to leave the war behind them for as long as they can because it’s taken its toll on both of them.
Adapting the Written in My Own Heart’s Blood chapter
I do expect to see some of this chapter used in the TV series. Maybe not as much as it is in the book or even in the way that it is, but I expect to see that closeness between Claire and Jamie in the series. We’ll need it after everything they will have been through up to this point.
These are the quiet moments that we do need. Claire and Jamie don’t have a superficial marriage. They are there for each other through thick and thin, and that does need to be shown on screen each season. It’s also a great way to portray a non-toxic relationship for those who have never experienced it in real life.
