Outlander’s Andrew Gower is in a new historical fiction series, The Winter King. How many episodes will be in the first season?
While Outlander Season 7 is only just upon us, we’ll be in another Droughtlander before we know it. The good news is The Winter King will get us through some of it. The first season premieres in August, and like Outlander, it will get a weekly release.
That means knowing just how many episodes are going to be in the first season. It’s important to know how many weeks of Droughtlander it will fill, and when the season finale will air. How long is the Arthurian legend series?
The Winter King Season 1 episode count
There are 10 episodes in the first season. This is not billed as a limited series, which does mean there’s hope that the historical drama will continue. We’re going to need more great storytelling to help us get through more of Droughtlander and beyond.
The first episode premieres on Sunday, Aug. 20. We’ll get episodes at around midnight ET on MGM+ via Amazon Channels and direct via streaming. If you have the linear channel, you will need to wait. Just like with STARZ, viewers will need to wait each week for it to air, with MGM+ opting for 9 p.m. ET/PT for this show.
We don’t anticipate a break in the schedule. That would suggest an Oct. 22 finale date for the 10 episodes. However, it’s worth noting that MGM+ is a new channel and streaming platform. There’s not that much in terms of consistency to see what could happen with seasons of TV shows.
Will it stream anywhere else? Sadly, not. It does mean another subscription. You’ll need to consider that when it comes to choosing to watch the series based on Arthurian legend and the books by Bernard Cornwell or not.
The Winter King premieres on Sunday, Aug. 20 on MGM+.
