Foreshadowing in the Outlander chapter

This chapter certainly foreshadows something for Jamie. I think it’s more of plot development, though. He opts to resign quickly and not in the most professional of ways. Of course, many men would likely understand his decision, but they’re still in the middle of battle and they need all the generals they can get. General Lee isn’t exactly in good standing now, though.

This is something that will come up again in the future. Jamie will be reminded that he chose his wife over his commission in the militia. It’s not exactly like he wouldn’t make that decision again, though.

Adapting the Written in My Own Heart’s Blood chapter

I fully expect this chapter to be used in the TV series. After all, it’s a huge moment for Claire and Jamie. We need to see Jamie worried that Claire is going to die, and we need to see Claire under the care of other medical professionals. I’m hoping that we see her put her trust in Denny, who has taken a lot of time and care to learn from Claire’s skills and knowledge.

We also need to see Jamie resign. This is a huge moment for this part of the story, and I just can’t see how the show could avoid it. I loved at the end of the Battle of Alamance when Jamie threw the coat on the ground. I’m looking forward to something similar here when he makes it clear that he chooses Claire over everything.
