Just the Outlander chapter

The chapter starts with Jamie making sure he is by Claire’s side. Dr. Leckie also appears. At least Dr. Leckie takes this seriously, and there may be some guilt. Had Dr. Leckie allowed Claire to go into the church, this could have been avoided.

Either way, Leckie is the one initially treating Claire even though everyone knows she would prefer Denny. She even asks for Denny at the end of the chapter.

A private turns up with orders for Jamie to see General Lee. Jamie decides to use Claire’s blood and the mud to dramatically resign. He writes it all on his jacket and sends the private off with the note. That’s it for Jamie and the Revolutionary War. He will not leave his wife’s side in her time of need.

For now, Leckie is able to stop the bleeding. He leaves when there is nothing more he can do. With Claire going into shock, Jamie makes sure her feet are up to help her. He wants to give her a drink, but she makes a note that it would make death much faster if her bowel has been perforated. She needs to wait for Denny to come and fix her.

We leave Jamie praying with everything that he has that his wife will be safe.
