Outlander Season 8 is officially happening. Now all eyes are on just how many episodes are going to be in the final season.
Yes, Outlander Season 8 is officially happening. The bad news is that it’s going to be the final season. Of course, we wanted this show to go on forever, but we all know good things have to come to an end.
With news that it will be the final season, at least the writers can craft an ending for Claire and Jamie. There are a lot of storylines that need to be wrapped, and we need answers about the ghost in the pilot episode. Diana Gabaldon knows all about the ghost and all will be revealed in Book 10, but will show fans get the answers first?
Outlander Season 8 episode count
As well as announcing that Season 8 would be the last, STARZ has confirmed the episode count. We’ll get 10 episodes to this season. It will be the only season with 10 episodes.
The first and seventh seasons are 16 episodes long, the second and third seasons have 13 episodes, and the fourth and fifth seasons have just 12 episodes. Season 6 will remain the shortest with eight episodes, but this was due to the pandemic and Caitriona Balfe’s pregnancy. The four episodes that were supposed to be part of the season were added to Season 7 to make it 16 episodes long instead of what had become the standard 12.
Will 10 episodes be enough to tell the story? At least it’s not as short as Game of Thrones‘s final season, but there are still concerns that there won’t quite be enough time for this epic romance to come to an end.
The writing work will now be able to start on the season. With Season 7 still in production until at least February or March this year, there is hope that production can start in the summer or a little later to keep the final Droughtlander as short as possible.
