Just the Outlander chapter

The chapter starts with Jamie finding out who Morgan wanted him to meet. It’s George Washington. There are a few others from real history in the room, too.

Jamie gets caught up with everything that’s happening in Philadelphia. The British are pulling out, and that means Claire is now at risk. By marrying Lord John Grey, she’s a presumed Loyalist. Will Fergus and Marsali be able to help her? Can Claire manage to get out? Jamie needs to get to her right now.

The problem is Washington wants Jamie to become a general for one of the battalions. Jamie can’t exactly say no to this, so he agrees to it but he needs to get to Philadelphia first. Washington agrees to give him three days.

Morgan makes sure that Jamie has money for a uniform and has some food. With that, Jamie is left in the house and is ready to leave. He has a back spasm, which means he’s stuck in the same place for two to four days. This is a sign of Jamie getting older, and he needs to rely on Mrs. Hardman to look after him.

Hardman clearly didn’t want the men in her house in the first place. She doesn’t want to look after Jamie, but he makes himself useful by changing diapers on her youngest daughter. He doesn’t want to just be a charity case.
