Outlander officially renewed for Season 8 (It will be the last)
After a lot of questions and uncertainty, we finally have news that Outlander Season 8 is going to happen. The bad news is that it will be the last.
There were a lot of concerns that Outlander Season 7 would be the last. When it was extended to 16 episodes from 12, fans took that to mean it would be an extended final season. The extension was actually due to Season 6 being cut to just eight episodes due to the pandemic and Caitriona Balfe’s pregnancy.
Well, now we know that Season 7 is not going to be the last. STARZ has finally made Season 8 official, but it comes with some bad news.
Outlander Season 8 will be the last
While the eighth season of the series is confirmed, it will be the final season. The show’s official social media channels released a video with the cast sharing the news, with hopes that they will do everyone proud when they bring this series to an end.
There’s no doubt that the story deserves a proper ending instead of being abruptly canceled. Considering it is one of STARZ’s top shows, it would have been crazy to end the story on a cliffhanger and leave everyone wondering what would come next.
Of course, there are now questions about how it could end. Will it end with whatever Diana Gabaldon has planned for Book 10, which she is currently working on? Is it possible that we’ll find out more about the ghost, which is definitely Jamie, before Gabaldon writes it? Or could it end with how Written in My Own Heart’s Blood ends with the figures coming over the hill of the Ridge?
We need answers to the ghost, right? Of course, the writers could take a different direction with the ghost than Gabaldon does. As long as it’s not a Game of Thrones ending, I’ll be happy!
While it is bittersweet news, at least we know we have one more season to look forward to. Plus, the prequel series is going to happen as confirmed in a new press release about the final season.
