Is Outlander leaving STARZ? (2023)
STARZ is pulling some of its content from the streaming platform, following a move by HBO Max. Is Outlander one of the shows leaving?
When HBO Max announced it was removing some of its original content, ears picked up. Now STARZ has said it will do the same. Deadline made the announcement, sharing the shows that would be removed from the streaming platform.
These are original shows, too. This is virtually unheard of in the world of streaming, but times are changing. The big question for Sassenachs around the world is whether Outlander is on the list of the STARZ shows leaving the service.
Outlander is not leaving STARZ in 2023
There is some good news. This is not one of the shows leaving the streaming platform. Only three titles have been removed so far, Dangerous Liaisons, Becoming Elizabeth, and Step Up.
Dangerous Liaisons is a surprise. It was originally renewed for a second season and then that decision was reversed. Now it’s leaving the streaming platform. We even recommended Becoming Elizabeth as something to help get through Droughtlander, and now it’s not going to be available.
For now Outlander is safe. What’s not clear is why the three titles were picked. It’s likely linked to low ratings, but it could also be due to Lionsgate looking to spin off from STARZ. The two companies were together after Lionsgate took over STARZ, but there have been financial problems for a while.
It wouldn’t make sense for STARZ to get rid of Outlander at this time. It is one of the most popular shows on the network. The three shows picked are among the lowest rated and all three have been canceled. We know Claire and Jamie will return in summer 2023 with new episodes.
