Written in My Own Heart’s Blood is the eighth Outlander book, and it’s the one we’re moving onto next in our read-through. When will that start?

Can you believe we’ve wrapped up the read-through of An Echo in the Bone? The seventh book certainly brings a lot of drama. It also offers us the perspectives of many different characters. We get to learn about William, Lord John Grey, and Rachel Hunter.

These three characters continue to grow in the eighth book. We also have the characters we’ve already come to know and love, some of them in far more dangerous predicaments than others. A lot of storylines were left open-ended at the end of the seventh book.

What is Written in My Own Heart’s Blood about?

The eighth book takes place across multiple timelines. One of those is, of course, the 1770s. We left Claire and John happy that Jamie was alive after all, but it also causes a few problems considering the two married. Meanwhile, William has found out that he is not the son of an earl after all. He’s the son of a groomsman.

In the 1980s, we left Brianna, Jem, and Mandy in a spot of trouble. Rob Cameron had kidnapped Jemmy, with everyone thinking that Jem has been taken through the stones. However, Jem is still in the present day, and Bree is going to need to find him.

What about Roger? He’s the one traveling through time with Buck in search for his son. There are a few familiar faces about to turn up.

When will the Outlander Book 8 read-through begin?

We usually take some time off between books. However, with Droughtlander firmly in place until the summer, it’s probably best to keep the read-through going as soon as possible. I’m going to take the weekend to get a few chapters read and written about and then we’ll start.

Written in My Own Heart’s Blood will begin on Monday, Jan. 9. We’ll probably take a break over Easter for a week or so, but I’m not too sure about that just yet.
