Just the Outlander chapter

The chapter starts with the truce. General Burgoyne will allow Jamie to head to Scotland. As kin to Lord Lovat, Jamie is to accompany Simon Fraser’s body back to Scotland. Claire will go with Jamie, but Jamie needs to figure out how to get Ian out of hiding and back to Scotland with him. He thinks about dressing Ian up as Claire’s maid, which is very similar to how Bonnie Prince Charlie got out of Scotland all those years earlier.

As for Ian, he is currently in hiding. We find out that Captain Martin wanted Rollo killed for attacking him, and there is a mob after the dog. Rachel protects Rollo with her own body, and Denny is the one who knocks some sense into the angry mob. Why would they want to kill an innocent animal?

With Rollo saved, the focus can move to William. The British are heading home, but William is sad to leave some of his comrades behind. However, he misses his father, Lord John Grey, and that’s who he wants to see first. I love that we continue to have this connection. It shows the type of man John was as a father to William.

Claire watches the British leave from the woods. Jamie is there too, and he doesn’t make an effort to hide himself from William’s view. He’s relieved to see that William is out of harm’s way right now. It must have been so hard for him to see his son in battle, and on the opposite side.
