Outlander Book Club: An Echo in the Bone Chapter 67 breakdown
Just the Outlander chapter
The chapter starts with David Rawlings coming to see Claire. He wants to learn more about his brother’s death, and we learn that David and Daniel were identical twins. In the end, David gives Claire some of his spare tools, and he goes off.
There is a stranger at one point, who ends up spitting in Claire’s soup. It’s not clear who this man is, but he knows Claire and Jamie are married. Something about the man sets off Claire’s anxiety, but she needs to put off her thoughts. She has patients to see, and one of them is too embarrassed because of his problems. It’s to do with his butt.
Claire realizes that she needs some grease, but Denny doesn’t have any available that will help. He also agrees that he will take the patient who is too embarrassed to be treated by a woman. She heads out in the woods to get some animal grease, but while out there, some men are walking around. Claire has a flashback of being taken, and it’s not until Ian and Rollo turn up that she’s fully able to focus on what’s around her. Ian and Rollo have scared the strangers away.
Ian takes the grease to Rachel so Denny can take the grease. That’s where Ian kisses Rachel but then tells her that her life is in danger by being with him. He leaves, and Rachel ponders what that means. She admits to Denny that she loves Ian, and Ian can clearly see it. She doesn’t tell Denny that Ian kissed her.
Denny makes it clear that Ian and Rachel can’t marry. The Quakers won’t accept Ian into the community. Rachel does note that Ian is a violent man, but that doesn’t seem to change the way she feels about him. In the end, Denny says that their food stores have been stolen, so Rachel heads to the Frasers to see if they have anything to share.
