If you saw Andrew Whipp’s name on the casting announcement for Outlander Season 7 and got confused, you would not be alone. Yes, he did play Brian Fraser in the first season of the series, and yes, he is back as the same Brian Fraser in Season 7.
How is this going to be possible? Of course, this could just be some sort of flashback. We’ve already seen one in Season 5 that wasn’t in the books to help further the bond between Jamie and Murtagh. However, we can look at the books to get answers.
It looks like the series is going to combine the seventh and eighth books for some of the storylines in Outlander Season 7. It’s in Written In My Own Heart’s Blood where Brian Fraser comes back into it.
How will Brian Fraser return in Outlander Season 7?
This is a show that involves time travel. We know a few time travelers in the series, and we know Roger and Brianna are on the move again. There are photos that show them in the 1980s. But that’s ahead of time. It’s centuries after Brian Fraser’s death.
Well, one of them is going to the past. At the end of An Echo in the Bone, Roger heads through the stones to find Jemmy. He thinks Jemmy has been taken through time. This is where Roger goes on a journey of meeting various kinsmen, and one of them is his grandfather-in-law, Brian Fraser.
Roger ends up in 1739 Scotland. He heads to Lallybroch, where he meets a widowed Brian and a young Jenny. The two invite him in and learn that Roger is looking for his son. Brian gets involved, but it’s later that he also has something much more meaningful.
Brian has some World War II dog tags with the name J.W. MacKenzie inscribed on them. They were left by Captain Jonathan Randall for Roger, so Roger heads off to Fort William to get answers.
We get to see Brian in December of the same year. Brianna and Jemmy are now in the past, but Brian believes he has seen the ghosts of Ellen and William, who Bree and Jemmy look like.
