What is Besieged by Diana Gabaldon about?
Diana Gabaldon has announced Besieged will be released in the U.S. and Canada in October. What is the novel about, and why does it sound familiar?
Sadly, Outlander Book 10 isn’t already coming out. Besieged is not part of the main Outlander stories, but it does connect to one of the characters in the books. It’s another of the Lord John Grey books.
Don’t worry if you think this title sounds familiar. It was originally released as one of the short stories in Seven Stones to Stand and Fall. If you already have that book, you have the story and there’s no need to buy it again. However, if you didn’t get that book of short stories, you can soon get this story on its own.
Besieged by Diana Gabaldon will be released in eBook form on Tuesday, Oct. 18. It will only be released in the U.S. and Canada for now.
What is Besieged about?
Besieged is a novella set in 1762, and follows Lord John Grey. It focuses on his involvement in the siege of Havana in that year.
The story starts with John anticipating the voyage back to England. He’s done his time as Governor of Jamaica, and he’s supposed to be going home. However, his plans are changed when the British Navy gets ready to lay siege to Havana, and so John has to go to Cuba.
It turns out that the dowager Duchess of Pardloe is a guest of Governor Juan de Prado. She may be a hostage, and that’s what this siege is all about.
Diana Gabaldon has shared an excerpt from the novella so you can get a sense of what to expect if you didn’t read it in the short story collection.
While this isn’t a new book, Gabaldon isn’t finished with John’s stories. There are more in the works.
Besieged is coming to eBook form on its own on Tuesday, Oct. 18.
