Outlander: Blood of My Blood officially ordered by STARZ
We’d learned about an Outlander prequel being in the works earlier this year. STARZ has now officially ordered Blood of My Blood.
Our eyes are still on whether Outlander Season 8 is going to happen. While we wait for that, we do have news that the universe is going to continue in some sort of way if Season 7 is the last. Blood of My Blood is officially happening.
Back in February, we learned that a prequel series was in the works. This was never officially confirmed by STARZ, but that wasn’t surprising. A prequel series could have been unofficially in the works to be pitched to the network to see if STARZ would pick it up. TVLine has now brought us the exciting news.
What is Blood of My Blood about?
The Outlander prequel is just as Sam Heughan had shared. It’s focused on Brian and Ellen Fraser, Jamie’s parents. This will mean that Heughan isn’t part of it unless he acts as the narrator of the story or there are some flash forwards involved.
As of right now, there are no signs of that happening. The focus is on Brian Fraser and Ellen MacKenzie, and the relationship they started that nobody else would approve of. We know some of this story, including the fact that the two ran away with each other, married in secret, and then stayed away until Ellen was too far along in her first pregnancy for Ellen’s father to annul the marriage.
The prequel is going to be based on the prequel novel Diana Gabaldon is working on. While her main focus is the 10th book in the main series, she does still write parts of the prequel when the characters talk to her. There has been a Daily Lines post shared of the prequel that focused on Red Jacob, Ellen’s father.
Matthew B. Roberts will serve as writer and executive producer for Blood of My Blood. Maril Davis and Ron D. Moore will serve as executive producers, while Gabaldon will serve as consultant producer like with the main series.
