Foreshadowing in the Outlander chapter

This chapter certainly foreshadows things to come. Bree is worried about leaving Claire and Jamie. So far, they’ve been able to ignore the gossip, but it’s only a matter of time before it all comes to a head. Roger is also concerned, and it’s clear that he is still needed in town.

Roger and Bree leaving is perfect timing for Richard Brown to turn up. Roger isn’t there to keep the fisherfolk in line. Claire and Jamie will need to rely on others around them.

Adapting A Breath of Snow and Ashes chapter

This chapter wasn’t really used in the series. There just wasn’t the need for it. That being said, we did see Bree and Roger leave the Ridge for Edenton. That part of the story is important.

  1. We needed to see Bree and Roger leave for the next part of Claire’s story.
  2. Roger needs to be ordained.

The show managed to work Roger and Bree leaving into another part of the story. It was all about Lizzie and Josiah coming to Roger to marry them. The TV show has to adapt the story to work the important parts in and know when elements aren’t necessary for the overall story. It’s not easy, but I do think the writers have done the best job for the most part.
