Outlander Season 5 is bringing Richard Brown into the story. We look at the character in The Fiery Cross to get an idea of what to expect in the series.

Richard Brown is one of the characters from “The Fiery Cross” confirmed for Outlander Season 5. Played by Chris Larkin, we’ll get to see at least some of the storyline play out. Just how much of it? What type of role does he play in the books?

There are spoilers from “The Fiery Cross” in this post. But we’ll only stick to “The Fiery Cross” storyline, despite his character reappearing in Book 6.

Richard Brown and his brother

Richard is the brother of Lionel Brown and uncle of Alicia Brown. It’s within this family that he first appears in the fifth novel of the series. Jamie Fraser is traveling the lands, sending Roger MacKenzie and Fergus Fraser off to other parts of the lands.

Roger and Fergus head to Brownsville, where they meet the Brown family. They two are thrown straight into an altercation happening. Richard is trying to kill Isaiah Morton, along with Lionel. Isaiah “dishonored” Alicia, although it turns out that Isaiah wants to be with Alicia.

It’ sup to Roger and Fergus to diffuse the current situation, at least until Claire and Jamie arrive. they were at the Beardsley outpost, where they were tending to Fanny Beardsley’s situation. While the Browns take the infant child of Fanny in (mainly due to her being the heiress to the Beardsley lands), it’s clear that they can cause a problem in the future.

Joining the militia

As a man capable of fighting, Richard joins Jamie’s militia. He also becomes part of Jamie’s company during the Battle of Alamance.

However, there’s always the reminder of everything that happened between Isaiah and Alicia, who do run away with each other after the disbanding of the militia. Richard isn’t willing to allow peace, which certainly causes some problems for the Frasers.

That storyline continues into “A Breathe of Snow and Ashes,” but it’s no clear how much of it will play out in Outlander Season 5 and 6. We’ll cover more of the story after Season 5, once we get to see what happens there.
