When it comes to complicated characters, Tom Christie is certainly one of them. It’s clear that he has his mind set and he has his own ways of doing things and own beliefs, but he also has some tender moments. Those moments especially come up when he’s around Claire.
By the end of the season, it’s clear that Tom has formed some sort of connection with Claire. He feels something for her, and he does want to protect her. That’s despite everyone accusing her of murder.
There is one moment in the series that leads up to Tom’s reactions at the end of the season. This one moment is the standout moment of Outlander Season 6 when it comes to the character.
Tom’s standout moment in Outlander Season 6
It all comes down to the moment Tom is recovering from his hand surgery. He is ashamed of the way he reacted, and he wants to apologize for that.
No, this wasn’t about his refusal to use the ether. It was the way he yelled out in pain. It was the fact that Jamie had to take up reading the Bible to him. Tom views himself as a lesser man than Jamie in this moment, and he wants to apologize to Claire for that.
Claire doesn’t judge him for the way he reacted in pain. She did want to avoid that because as a doctor, she doesn’t want to cause harm. However, he was understandably wary of the ether. But at no point did she judge him.
However, she understood that he felt the need to apologize. This leads to an excellent conversation between the two of them, and it’s the clear moment when Tom realizes that Claire is skilled. She’s not a witch, but is a talented healer. She becomes someone he wants to know on a deeper level, and it all leads to the developed feelings for her by the end of the season.
