Claire saw Malva coming to see her at the end of Outlander Season 6, Episode 6. Instead of hearing her out, she turned to her ether. Is it possible Claire will blame the ether for Malva’s death?

We know that it’s not Claire’s fault that Malva was murdered. That blame lies on the murderer and the murderer alone. However, it’s not always easy for us to convince ourselves that we didn’t have a role in something when something inside of us blames ourselves.

Claire saw Malva heading to her. It was this that set off another anxiety attack, and Claire chose to use ether instead of facing Malva. After all, Claire had no idea why Malva was coming to see her. It is possible that Malva was coming to confess everything, but Claire had no reason to believe that seeing the way Malva changed when at the Christies.

By being under the spell of ether, Claire wasn’t awake enough to be able to hear anything that could have been going on outside. By the time Claire got outside, it was clear that Malva had been dead for a while.

Will Malva’s death make Claire stop using ether in Outlander?

We’ve all wondered what would lead to Claire no longer using ether. Something has to make her stop, and there have been a few theories along the way. Many think that she’ll be caught in the act, leading to her family being worried about her and staging an intervention. Others believe that she’ll cause the fire in the Big House due to the use of the ether by an open flame.

However, is it possible that Malva’s death is going to be the reason Claire stops using it? Will she feel so much pain and guilt over Malva and the unborn baby’s deaths that she’ll believe the ether was the cause? Will she believe that if she had let Malva in and not used the ether that she would have been able to keep Malva safe? Malva’s murderer wouldn’t have been able to get to her before Malva had a chance to confess.

Claire is clearly going to struggle with the loss of Malva and the baby. We see this in the promo, and it looks like she’s putting the blame on the murderer. However, it is possible that she’s putting some of the blame on herself and she may even admit to Jamie what she’s been doing with the ether to cope with her trauma.

We’ll have to wait an extra week to find out. There isn’t an episode of Outlander tonight, but there will be one on Sunday, April 24.
