The shame over her hair

It’s hard to picture Claire being vain, but there are moments where she has been throughout the series. We just have to look at how she dyed her hair before heading back to the 18th century in Outlander Season 3. It’s not surprising that she had another self-conscious moment over her hair in the new episode.

Due to her fever, Malva and Mrs. Bug decided to cut Claire’s hair short. It was not something she would have done herself, and she was ashamed when she realized what had happened. The first thing she worried about was what Jamie would think of her. It’s this reminder of Claire being worried about the way she looks, especially when it comes to the way Jamie thinks of her.

The request for the stool sample

Claire knows that she didn’t have the same illness that others on the Ridge did. She and Tom had the same illness, but she can’t figure out how that was possible. She also wants to make sure it was the same illness, which means asking for a stool sample.

This is a normal request now. It was not something Tom expected, and he reacted the way we would expect. This whole moment brought us some humor in an otherwise heavy episode.

The attempt to save the baby

Claire knows that Jamie wouldn’t have an affair. She also knows that if there was any chance Malva’s baby was his, he would do the right thing. There’s even a moment where she wants to help Malva until she realizes what is actually going on.

That doesn’t stop her from trying to save the unborn baby when she finds a murdered Malva in her garden. Claire is too late, and we see just how much that hurts. It’s not that this baby could be Jamie’s, but that this is an innocent life and Claire was too late to save the baby. Despite everything, Claire puts her feelings for Malva aside and wants to do the right thing for the baby.
