3 best Claire moments in Outlander Season 6, Episode 5
Claire got to meet Flora MacDonald in Outlander Season 6, Episode 5. Here are my favorite three Claire moments from the entire episode.
Tensions are rising in the colonies, and so Flora MacDonald came to North Carolina to encourage peace. She wants people to stick with the Crown, but Claire knows the side of the war that will eventually win. It means she and Jamie need to look like traitors as they fight on the side that will bring America into a reality.
This was a big episode for the war storyline. It’s a necessary one to see how the tensions are rising and why the Jacobites actually decided to stick with the Crown this time instead of rebelling again. We also got to see Claire offer some help medicinally to Jocasta, as well as meeting someone from history who she looked up to.

Helping Jocasta with the pain in her eyes
We get a moment with Jocasta as she suffers from pain. That’s not surprising with glaucoma. This is a medical condition that involves pressure building up in the eyes, which leads to a lot of pain. In the books, we see Claire perform surgery, but that’s not what happens here. Instead, she just offers medicinal help flower—in other words, weed!
What I love the most about this part of the story is how we see Claire and Jocasta are now getting along. There was tension between the two in Season 4 due to Claire’s opinion of slaves. However, when pulled away from River Run, we do get to see Jocasta thankful for Claire’s knowledge and help, and Claire is more than just a doctor but a caring niece-in-law.
Giving Flora a chance to escape the pressure
Flora MacDonald is amazed by Claire’s care for Jocasta since she doesn’t understand the relationship at first. However, we know that Claire does care for others, and when it comes to Flora, Claire is more than willing to offer her something she needs. That need is escape.
Flora is nervous. There’s a lot of pressure on her as someone who is sharing why the people should stick with the Crown. Claire understands that sort of pressure, and so, she suggests that Flora joins them. It allows an informal “girls moment,” and I adore this so much.
Her reaction to hearing the whistling
At the very end of the episode, Claire hears someone whistling. Usually, this wouldn’t be a cause for concern or even care, but the tune being whistled is important. It’s one she knows only because she’s a time traveler.
We get that sudden realization of the tune, but the whistling is gone just as quickly as it arrived. So, Claire decides that it must be the wind. After all, haven’t we all done that when we get a sense of deja vu or we think we hear something. We put it off, only until we realize that there was something going on.
