Tom Christie changes his mind about surgery

During the Outlander Season 6 premiere, Claire noted that Tom Christie had an infirmity that she could fix. In the new episode, Tom starts by saying that he’s decided not to have Claire operate on his hand. He says that it is God’s will, and she quickly points out that he should have left his goat to die instead of have her heal the goat’s leg.

Malva continues to be in awe at Claire’s skills. She’s eager to learn more, and Claire offers her the opportunity to see Claire examine Marsali. Allan prevents it from happening, with comments about how Claire could be viewed as a witch.

It’s only when Tom tries to beat Malva and can’t hold onto the whip that he realizes he needs Claire to do the surgery.

Roger proceeds over a funeral

We get a chance to see Roger act as a minister. Hirome Crombie’s mother-in-law suddenly dies, and Roger is asked to do the surgery.

This doesn’t go the way of most funerals. Hirome’s mother-in-law wakes up in the middle of the funeral. Claire does a quick examination and realizes that the woman is still going to die.

There is certainly an excellent moment between Mrs. Wilson and Hirome Crombie. Mrs. Wilson notes how Crombie hasn’t given her a fitting funeral and she’s not being buried with the brooch she wants, and she even questions about why the Sineater hasn’t been paid yet.

Sadly, Mrs. Wilson does die and Roger gets on with the funeral. We get some foreshadowing of what Roger will do.

The funeral takes place in the church that Tom has his people building. Jamie notes that it should be a meeting place for everyone (including Claire who people are scared of because of her skills). Jamie makes it very clear that his way is law on the Ridge, and they need to follow the ways of the masons just to get along like they did in Ardsmuir.
