We’re officially starting to count down the final days of Droughtlander! We’re just so close to Outlander Season 6. This is a verra exciting time! While the sixth season is right around the corner, us Outlander fans are always eager for more news about our favorite show. We’re always thinking about what’s next, and right now that’s Outlander Season 7.

We know the seventh season of the time-travel romance will be a total of 16 episodes. It’s an extra long season since the Season 6 episode count was cut short due to pandemic challenges.

That means much more filming is required, which also means the process will take even longer. With that said, has filming for Outlander Season 7 started yet?

Outlander Season 7 filming probably hasn’t started

Based on some of the cast’s social media activity, it seems like Outlander Season 7 hasn’t started filming yet. We previously predicted based on the Outlander Training Program that filming would start in January. That’s when traineeships were set to begin. But it seems more likely that was more for post-production getting things going rather than filming.

Sam Heughan just shared that he wrapped filming Men in Kilts Season 2 with Graham McTavish. The next season will take place in New Zealand. That means he was obviously filming outside of Scotland, something very difficult for him to do with a typical Outlander filming schedule.

He’s more than likely to be at the Outlander Season 6 World Premiere event in London on Feb. 24. Then, he’s off to New York for Happy, Sad, Confused with Josh Horowitz. That event will be on March 1.

That’s certainly a lot of traveling for our favorite Scottish actor! With filming obligations and traveling all the way to the U.S., it’s a pretty good indication that filming for Season 7 hasn’t begun yet. It’s very hard for the cast to travel anywhere close by while filming Outlander, let alone internationally!

Caitriona Balfe has been in the U.S. for a while now to do press work for Belfast (which has been nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars. Yay!). Just recently she appeared on the Kelly Clarkson Show. Now, that was probably filmed a while back. But we don’t know where she is at the moment. She may still be sticking around a bit longer before (hopefully!) heading to the London Season 6 premiere event.

There’s also our lovely Young Ian who is currently center stage in London. John Bell’s show, The Night Larry Kramer Kissed Me, started February 3 and runs until February 26. There’s no way he’s been jumping between the two countries. That’s another big indicator that Outlander Season 7 probably hasn’t started filming yet.

At this point, it’s hard to say when filming will begin for the show’s seventh season. Maybe the production team is waiting to start after Outlander Season 6’s premiere on March 6. But dinna fash, Sassenachs!

Don’t forget Maril Davis said that Outlander Season 7 will premiere in late 2022/early 2023. With that timeframe in mind, they’re bound to start filming very soon!
